I hear you.  I got a new windshield a few months back.  A week ago or so a truck ahead of me kicked up a rock and I got a huge chip.  Thankfully it’s fairly out of the ordinary field of view, but still.  I knew it was inevitable, but it still stinks.

The glass dipping down an extra 4" unnecessarily just increases the area of vulnerability.

Toyota glass is expensive. At least the factory replacement windshield for our Sienna was a blood-boiling $900.

Brand new car will not get aftermarket glass. I am not sacrilegious .

Any used car, short of being a very nice/expensive one, has always received aftermarket glass. I was bummed with the passenger front window on the G35. The replacement was dog dirt. Looked cheap, reflected light different - most apparent with polarized glasses.

I’ve been driving for over 20 years and have never had a non cracked or chipped windshield for more than 4 months

I change my windshields every 3-4 years

I live in Alberta.  I have four cars...two have cracked windshields, one cracked within two weeks of ownership.  #Bertalyfe.
